By pewsey, Sep 13 2015 07:31PM

Today Pewsey paid a visit to Steeple Ashton for their first game of the season and their first game in the Mid Wilts league, the game started of at quite a pace with Oskar Boaler, Oscar Middleton and Connor Marsden probing the Stee- ple Ashton defence, approximately 10 mins in Pewsey got a corner by Reece Hawkins put a good cross in, one of our new players for this season, James wood climbed above the defence to head it home 1-0 Pewsey,

The game carried on with our front lines pace causing the opposition defence a lot of problems, Steeple Ashtons goal keeper made some very good saves but was beaten by a cross from Oskar and following pressure from Connor their defender headed it into his own net, 2-0 Pewsey

The next goal came from a long clearance by Reece which Oscar picked up and ran past the last defender then to calmly chip the goalkeeper, 3-0 Pewsey

Half time followed not much after the third Goal a very good half from Pewsey

The second half started in a similar way, Pewsey probing for another opening but Steeple Ashton driving forward on break outs from their defence, it was on one of these break outs that they fed the ball down our right hand side and one of their attackers managed to create a bit of space for a long range drive just out of reach for our new Goalie for this season Alex Hitchen, 3-1 Pewsey.

We got another goal from a corner this time the cross from Liam Weir found Ben Pinder ghosting in on the back post to head home the 4th Goal, 4-1 Pewsey

Later in the Match Ben put in a pass to Connor who had been very unlucky with previous strikes made sure of this one nearly breaking the net in the process, 5-1 Pewsey.

The game was drawing to a close when Steeple Ashton again managed to break down our right and they score a screamer from the wing again leaving Alex no chance, 5-2 Pewsey.

It was not long after that the final whistle was blown on an excellent performance from our lads, hopefully this bodes well for our season, just one final duty to perform from the management team was to name the player of the match, there were several choices which made it very difficult to decide but it went eventually to James Wood who played an excellent game in the centre of a very good defence, this coupled with his goal in the first half just tipped the edge on some very good performances, Well done Lads!

Team: Alex Hitchen, Regan Cain, Robbie Smith, James Wood, Max Vines, Reece Hawkins, Ben Pinder,

Liam Weir, Oskar Boaler, Oscar Middleton, Connor Marsden, Owen Kimber
